We see it in every aspect of DF programming – people just want to be loved. They want to be intimate with others, to trust and be trusted. They want welcoming smiles to greet them, and to talk to friends who are genuinely interested in their day. They want someone who is promoting their strengths and helping support their needs. They want to be seen as beautiful in the eyes of someone. DF knows that social relationships can be complex; in addition to showing acceptance and cheer, DF staff help people learn and accept their responsibilities as part of any such relationship. This social skill-building is the basis of any successful and lasting community relationship – from shared community activities to jobs. DF plans goals, programs and activities to help individuals build social capital and to feel joy along the way.
