Leave A LegacyMake a contribution that counts
It has been said that people with disabilities are “tourists in their own communities.” That is often true, as they pass through on the edges of society, viewed as unable; a charitable cause; sometimes acknowledged; often disregarded; certainly pitied.
Downsize Farm and many others see that people with disabilities have much to offer. They may be differently able, but definitely able. We are often overwhelmed by the contributions of the people we serve. DF looks for opportunities for individuals with disabilities to become friends with community members, and one way is through volunteering in local venues. Downsize Farm sponsors a Meals on Wheels route in which some of our clients deliver meals to – and inspire – shut-ins in the area. Teams of clients and staff have done community service for struggling individuals as well, often without public recognition. There are many ways that people with disabilities can shine their lights and DF works hard to fan those flames. Our clients are leaving a legacy every day – a reminder that they were on this journey with us, and that they belong. |
