Family Information
Downsize Farm recognizes that while the individuals we serve are our greatest priority, we also serve the parents and families of these individuals. Every person at DF has a home staff or family who work behind the scenes encouraging, preparing and standing through difficult times. DF recognizes that a cohesive team who communicates well together will create the best programming and planning for our people.
With his permission if the client is his own guardian, DF client advocates often send home notes or make calls to the home to share the day’s successes or issues. We appreciate that families and staff do the same for DF. Together we can be a greater support to our clients and we will all better know how to address the concerns of the day.
Many Downsize Farm staff are themselves family members of individuals with disabilities. We have a heart for the daily lives of people who require some help but also know that we cannot set up a dependence on any agency person. DF staff “help people to help themselves,” by encouraging, trying another way to accomplish a difficult task, or by creating jigs or aids to help people with their job and life skills. We expect all people to be their best, which is reflected in the Code of Conduct that you saw at enrollment. By holding people to a standard of positive relationships, we better assist them in joining their communities and being welcome in the workplace.
There are many changes in the rules and funding of service to people with disabilities. Please stay informed and make your voice heard. DF works hard to stay ahead of required changes with the least disruption to your folks and to keep you all involved, but to stay viable, there are many tweaks happening almost weekly. If you have concerns or questions, please feel free to call. We want to work in harmony with all the people in our clients’ lives!
DF will be hosting quarterly parent and family meetings just to chat. We expect to put upcoming events on this website as well, because we know that notes do not always make their way into your hands!
And finally, we hope to be contacting you all personally at some point throughout the year. We never want to lose sight of the families we also serve.
